Göcek
Göcek is a small town in Fethiye district in Muğla Province, Turkey.
It is located between Fethiye and Dalyan. According to the legends, it is in the Göcek area that Icarus landed in the sea after his famous flight trying to escape from the tower where he was imprisoned. Göcek was used as a harbour for ships loading chrome ore collected from the mines under nearby mountains during the Ottoman period.
The Gulf of Göcek, with well-equipped marinas set in a beautiful pine forest, is one of the Mediterrarean's best sailing spots. Dotted with islands and intented with many, coves, its land and seascapes are irresistible.
The ruins of Arymaxa, an ancient city the southern tip of the gulf, lie at the edge of the azure waters. Opposite on Tersane Island stand Byzantine ruins including those of the ancient shipyards.
Göcek is popular with yachting types who come here for its excellent marina. It is a charming resort with a range of sophisticated hotels and upmarket restaurants and boutiques.Göcek has all the necessary infrastructure, capacity, and amenities expected in a tourism center, yet it is renowned as a much more peaceful and quiet settlement than some other tourism areas.
